Tesla SC/NACS Adapter Appeared on Ford Parts Website

Ford seems to have accidentally leaked its J3400 to CCS adapter for Tesla Superchargers. This adapter is designed to give Ford EV owners access to Tesla's Supercharger network. About a year ago, Ford became the first automaker to adopt Tesla's connector, which is now known as J3400 (formerly NACS). This connector is on its way to becoming the new standard EV connector in North America.

While Tesla has signed deals with various automakers to incorporate the NACS connector into their upcoming vehicles starting in 2025, automakers like Ford have decided to offer CCS to NACS adapters to their existing EV owners in North America. These adapters allow Ford owners to access the Supercharger network.

In December, Tesla announced plans to make an adapter available to Ford and GM EV owners as early as February. Now, Ford has unintentionally revealed the adapter on its parts website. Although the page was taken down after its discovery, we know that the adapter looks fairly compact. Unfortunately, the charge rate isn't specified yet. Tesla Superchargers can charge up to 250 kW, and sometimes adapters can be a bottleneck in achieving the peak charge rate. However, Ford's current EVs charge below that capacity, so it's likely that the adapter won't pose any problems. Ford has also stated that it will provide the adapter for free to existing owners.

Exciting times for EV charging compatibility!
