Delivery Journey for Tesla Model 3 Highland RWD in Malaysia
Today we are sharing which happens 6 days ago (6 Feb 2024), just a few days before Chinese New Year. After go thru all the process before we can get delivery date, from VIN allocation, getting loan approval, getting insurance coverage, plate interchange process, get the car registered, then finally DA will allocate the delivery date for us. (We completed the process on 1 Feb 2024 and delivery date being allocate on 2 Feb 2024, which dated on 6 Feb 2024 at 10:40am.)
The car will be delivered at Tesla Malaysia Cyberjaya Experience Centre. We are from Johor Bahru, which 300++km away from Cyberjaya. As the date quite near to Chinese New Year, we can’t get any air ticket in reasonable price to KLIA. At the end, we book our late night bus ticket (on 6 Feb 2024 - 1am, from Larkin Sentral Johor Bahru to Terminal Bersepadu Selatan -TBS in Kuala Lumpur).
On 5 Feb 2024 – 11.30pm, we book a Grab car from Taman Bukit Indah to Larkin Sentral, within 1 min we get our Grab car allocated and the car reach our place less than 10min. Just less than 15min ride, we reached Larkin Sentral and luckily the bus was sharp on schedule, left the bus terminal at 1am.
After about 4 hours ride, we reached TBS Kuala Lumpur around 5am, and took 10min walks to KLIA Transit. One-way ticket from TBS to Putrajaya & Cyberjaya purchased for RM8.00 (payment can be done via TouchnGo or Visa card too. The train ride is about 15min and we reached Putrajaya Sentral just before 6am.
Then we took 5min walk from Putrajaya Sentral to MRT Putrajaya Line Station, then hop on the train to Cyberjaya City Center (Which just for 6 min ride with ticket price of RM1.20). Now still early in the morning, we took another 5min walk from MRT Cyberjaya City Center to bus station. The friendly staff at bus station guide us to T507 bus, which bring us just outside of Tesla Center in Cyberjaya (Just in front of Tech Mahindra Bus Stop).
After 7 hours since we left home, we reached our destination before 7am morning, but Tesla Center only open at 9am and our appointment at 10.40am. After quick search on google, find out that there is a Texas Chicken outlet which open for 24hours, which just 5min walks from Tech Mahindra Bus Stop. We had our breakfast at Texas Chicken and take a rest over there until 8.30am, before we heading to Tesla Centre.
After 5min walks, we are at the front of Tesla Centre guard post, after show the appointment in the Tesla app to them, the guard pointed the way of Tesla Showroom, but the door still closed. We decide to go around and at the back of the building, discovered there are numbers of car waiting for delivery. Our adventure being stop by guard and ask us wait at the front of showroom.
On 9pm sharp, the showroom door open. The staff pointed us the location of delivery center (not so far, just few steps away from showroom), and the delivery staff ask us to wait at lounge area before our document is ready.
After 15min, delivery ask identity document from us ensure that we are the owner to collect the car (otherwise authorization letter is needed). After signed all necessary document, 3 items are given to us 1. Tesla Red Packet for Chinese New Year 2. 2pcs of Official Tesla Malaysia Owner Club sticker 3. Exit pass which need to give to guard, before we leave Tesla Center.
Just right before 10am, we being call by delivery staff to attend simple course at classroom (just simple 3min video show how to start and drive, control of aircond, and basic control of steering wheel).
After the simple course, we being bring to delivery room for photo, but wait, our car not in the delivery room, as now in high peak for delivery, they are unable to bring every car in for delivery photo, there are 2 cars in delivery room (white and blue with ribbon) for who want to take photo with it, but since that is not our car, we decide to skip that.
Delivery staff bring us to open car park for our car, and first question asked is, do you do any test drive before the delivery. This is the first time we touch Model 3 in fresh, Delivery staff explain basic function of the car eg how to open the door, how to charge the car, how to drive via touch screen, then any other question always can refer to owner’s manual in the screen. When the door is open, there is a white envelope at the phone charging area, which hold the keycard, and Delivery staff advise that we need to use keycard today as the app only will be activated within 24 hours before we can pair our phone and using as car key.
When open the boot, our wall connector and emergency kit are inside. (As we opt for self-installation for the wall connector/charger). We find out that, our car being charged to 89% with Odo of 12KM. Delivery staff telling us that we can charge at delivery center before we leave, and we spend about 10min to charge our car from 89% to 100%, before we start our journey back to Johor Bahru.
The delivery staff advice us that, take a few around in the car park before we hit the road as we have no previous experience on Tesla before and we find out that
- There are no setting for Regenerative braking (you cannot set level of regen or turn it off)
- There are no setting for creep function (the car will stand still even in Drive or Reverse)
We start our journey at 10.40am, and system showing that there is 321KM for our destination, Tesla Supercharger at Sunway Iskandar Puteri Johor. After less that 4 hours drive, we reached Supercharger with 25% battery remaining, and we spend around 40min to charge our car to full before heading to home.
We will share more experience with our Tesla in future, and there are news that Tesla showroom and service will come to Johor Bahru in near future. Another delivery experience in Tesla Johor? Maybe… with Model Y?
Happy Chinese New Year
